#1 Men's Tennis Cruises to Third Round with 4-0 Win over #38 Luther
CHICAGO -- The top-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team rolled to a 4-0 sweep of #38 Luther on Friday morning to open the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament.

In doubles play, the Norse put up a fight as they did not allow UChicago to pull away in all three matches. After
Gopal Koduri broke serve four times to earn a 6-1 win at #2 doubles, Luther forced the Maroons to work, including picking up a break with UChicago serving for the match at #1 doubles. However,
** **Markus Ekstrand broke back in the next game to earn the 6-3 win, clinching the doubles point for UChicago.
In singles play,
Christian Liew wasted no time doubling the UChicago lead as he earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles in just 42 minutes.
** **Emil Grantcharov earned the third point of the match for the Maroons with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #2 singles after the senior won 14 of 15 points to open the second set.
Alexander Ekstrand earned the final point for UChicago with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #3 singles, locking up the 4-0 win over Luther.
In the remaining matches, Murugesan,
Michael Choi, and
Ajer Sher all won their first sets before the matches were abandoned with UChicago reaching decision.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 19-3 overall on the season. UChicago advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the tenth consecutive season. The Maroons will take on #10 Kenyon in a top-10 showdown at 11 AM CT with a spot in the National Quarterfinals on the line.
