USTFCCCA OFFICIAL RELEASE

NEW ORLEANS -- University of Chicago senior

Aryan Shrivastava made history on Wednesday as he became the first University of Chicago men's track and field athlete to earn National Athlete of the Year honors, as released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon.

Shrivastava was named the 2026 Outdoor Track & Field Championships Most Outstanding Male Field Performer after bringing home the first Outdoor Track & Field National Championship since 2004 for the University of Chicago. In the Triple Jump, Shrivastava put up one of the top performances of the decade for the men's track and field team as the senior broke the school record in his second jump at the National Championships. After his opening jump of 15.21 meters put him in second place, Shrivastava hit a mark of 15.50 meters, breaking the UChicago school record mark of 15.45 meters that had been held by Adeoye Mabogunje since 2004.

In addition to his Triple Jump National Championship, Shrivastava also earned 1st-Team All-American honors in the High Jump, clearing a height of 2.06 meters, which was good for a sixth-place finish in the event.

The Irvine, California native recorded 12.5 total points in the meet, earning every point for the UChicago track and field team, as he single-handedly lifted the Maroons to a program-best 19th-place finish in the National Championships.

Shrivastava joins Isabel Maletich (Outdoor, 2021) and Laura Darcey (Indoor, 2020) as the only three University of Chicago athletes in program history to earn USTFCCCA Athlete of the Year honors.

Each year, the USTFCCCA honors the Outstanding Performers of the Championships at both the NCAA DIII Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Winners are determined using a formula that adds together team points scored, plus meet records (five additional points), Division III seasonal bests (three additional points), and facility records (one point). Relay points, if applicable, are split equally among the four team members. Other winners of the Athlete of the Year honors include Kai Smith from Salisbury (Men's Track), Sydney Radigan from Calvin (Women's Track), and Chloe Hein from Centre (Women's Field).
