Aryan Shrivastava put up one of the top performances of the decade for the men's track and field team as the senior broke the school record in his second jump at the National Championships. After his opening jump of 15.21 meters put him in second place in the Triple Jump, Shrivastava hit a mark of 15.50 meters, breaking the UChicago school record mark of 15.45 meters that had been held by Adeoye Mabogunje since 2004. This jump would be enoughto hold off the defending national champion, Matayo McGraw from Widener, who could not get within 0.10 meters of Shrivastava as the Irvine, California native became the first UChicago men's track and field athlete to win an Outdoor National Championship since 2004. Shrivastava joins Adeoya Mabogunje (Triple Jump, 2004) and Tom Haxton (10,000m Run, 2004) as the only Maroons to win an Outdoor National Championship in the modern era, dating back to 1933. Shrivastava also joins Michael Bennett (Indoor Pole Vault, 2014) on the list of four individuals who have won a National Championship in track and field in the past 93 years for the University of Chicago.
Shrivastava also led the Maroons on Friday with his second 1st-Team All-America award of the meet as the senior placed 6th in the High Jump with a mark of 2.06 meters. Shrivastava earned the 20th and 21st All-America awards in program history, and he becomes the first University of Chicago student-athlete to earn All-America honors in the Men's High Jump. The All-America awards are also the fourth and fifth of the career for Shirvastava after he was a 2-time All-American during the indoor season.
Oluwaseyi Kadiri joined Shrivastava in the All-America list in the Triple Jump as the senior hit a mark of 14.81 meters, narrowly missing out on a 1st-Team All-America selection. After sitting in third place following the opening heat of jumpers, Kadiri was surpassed by 8 of the 11 jumpers in the second heat, leading to an 11th-place finish, just 0.05 meters from making the Triple Jump Finals. His performance in the first All-America award of his career and the 22nd All-America honor in UChicago history.
Evan Parker opened the Outdoor National Championships in the final event of the night as the freshman earned a 15th-place finish under the lights in the 10000m Run. With the top-15 finish, Parker becomes the 19th Maroons to earn All-America honors in men's outdoor track and field, and he joins Tom Haxton as the only two Maroons to earn All-America honors in the 10000m Run. The All-America award is the second of the career for Parker after he finished 16th in the 5000m Run during the indoor championships.
