CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior

Aryan Shrivastava has been named the UAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the University Athletic Association office on Monday afternoon.

Shrivastava put up one of the top performances of the decade for the men's track and field team as the senior broke the school record in his second jump at the National Championships. After his opening jump of 15.21 meters put him in second place in the Triple Jump, Shrivastava hit a mark of 15.50 meters, breaking the UChicago school record mark of 15.45 meters that had been held by Adeoye Mabogunje since 2004.

The Irvine, California native became the first UChicago men's track and field athlete to win an Outdoor National Championship since 2004. Shrivastava joins Adeoya Mabogunje (Triple Jump, 2004) and Tom Haxton (10,000m Run, 2004) as the only Maroons to win an Outdoor National Championship in the modern era, dating back to 1933.

The senior economics major also joins Michael Bennett (Indoor Pole Vault, 2014) on the list of four individuals who have won a National Championship in track and field in the past 93 years for the University of Chicago. He is the 11th overall student-athlete to win a National Championship with the first seven titles coming during the Big Ten era from 1921 to 1933.

The Athlete of the Week award for Shrivastava is the fifth of his career and the fourth of his senior season with the University of Chicago. Shrivastava is one of three Maroons to earn Athlete of the Week honors for men's track and field during the outdoor season, joining

Sanju Patel and

Paul Sackman.
