CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior Emil Grantcharov was named the University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.

Grantcharov sealed the National Championship for the Maroons with a huge three-set victory at #2 singles, clinching the 4-3 victory.

After dropping the first set 6-3, Grantcharov answered back with couple of huge breaks to win the second set 6-4. Then, with the entire match resting on his shoulders, the Stagg Medal winner answered with a 6-4 win in the final set to seal the third National Championship in the past five years for the Maroons.

In addition to his win in the National Championship, Grantcharov also beat the #18 player in the country 7-6(7-3), 6-3 in the 4-2 win over Bowdoin in the quarterfinals, and he held a 6-3, 6-6 lead over the #7 player in the country from Tufts in the semifinals.

The Player of the Week award is the first of the season and the fourth of the career for Grantcharov, and he is one of five UChicago players to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining Michael Choi, Alexander Ekstrand, Emil Grantcharov, and Christian Liew.
