#4 Women's Tennis Wins Fifth Consecutive UAA Title with Upset over #2 WashU

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The fourth-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team upset #2 Washington University in St. Louis to win its fifth-consecutive UAA Championship on Sunday morning. The Maroons battled the Bears, 4-1, to claim the title and punch their ticket to the 2026 NCAA DIII Tournament.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The fourth-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team upset #2 WashU to win its fifth-consecutive UAA title on Sunday morning. The Maroons took down the Bears 4-1 to claim the title and punch their ticket to the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament in May.

After dropping the doubles point, the Maroons came storming back to complete the win over the Bears.

Anika Paul earned the first win of the day for UChicago with a 6-1, 6-4 win over nationally ranked #17 Caitlin Bui at #3 singles.

Clara Zou followed behind, putting the Maroons on top with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #2 singles against Eleanor Archer, the 15th-ranked player in NCAA Division III.

At #5 singles,

Brooke Pedersen won the first set 6-3, but she had to fight back after dropping the second set. In the third set, Pedersen came up with a huge break of serve at the end of the set to win the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

At #1 singles,

** **Sarena Biria battled Eliana Hanna in a battle of the #2 and #3 players in the country. After falling short in a first-set tiebreak, Biria bounced back to win both the second and third sets by a score of 6-4 to take down the #3 player in NCAA Division III and lock up the 4-1 victory.

In the final two matches,

** **Lily Zawaneh and

** **Isabelle Chong were both leading in the third set against their WashU opponents before the match was clinched.

With the win, UChicago caps off the regular season with a 16-4 and a 12-2 record against nationally ranked Division III opponents. The Maroons also earn an automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament. The team will now set their sights on the NCAA Tournament which begins with the selection show on Monday, May 4, at 11 AM CT.
