CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A four-goal run in the fourth quarter brought MIT within one with 2:36 left to play, but it would not be enough as Williams College held on for a 14-13 victory in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Denley Kofoed opened the scoring with 11:25 on the clock as Garrett Campagna followed with a solo effort of his own. Nagle cut the Williams deficit in half at the 6:48 mark, but MIT replied with goals from Hayden Calabretta and Oscar Lindenthal to establish a 4-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

  • The Ephs battled back as a pair of goals from Davis Miller tied the game at 5-5 with 6:34 left in the second quarter. The Engineers countered with a blast by Zach Bleil, giving the hosts a slight edge at halftime.

  • Sparked by a goal from Ryan Johnson just over a minute into the third quarter, Williams put together a 6-1 run which featured two goals from Will Doran and resulted in an 11-7 lead. After being held scoreless for almost nine minutes, Riley Pierce connected on a pass from Carter Magnano with 10 seconds remaining.

  • After trading goals to start the fourth quarter, Nagle and Reich completed their hat tricks and increased the Ephs' advantage to 14-9 at the 10:44 mark. Following a save by Lung, Pierce found the back of the net with 5:07 left to play. MIT forced a shot clock violation and then saw Kofoed narrow the gap to 14-13 with 2:36 to go.

  • Williams won the faceoff and produced a shot that was wide and then one that was saved by Lung with 1:13 on the clock. Following a pair of timeouts by the Engineers, Drew Nicholson generated a turnover with 14 seconds left, helping the Ephs hold on for the win.
