Middlebury Competes on Regional Stage at Springfield

The Middlebury women's track and field team secured eighth place at the two-day Division III New England Championships hosted by the Springfield Pride.
HIGHLIGHTS

Following a conference title in the event last weekend, Lilly Wurtz headlined the region in the discus. On her third attempt, she covered 43.03 meters to lead the field by 1.55 meters.

The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Katie Bruno, Jazmyn Hurley, Melissa White and Olive Lawrence earned second place, narrowly trailing their current program record with a time of 47.30.

Lawrence clocked a preliminary effort of 12.14 seconds in the 100 dash to advance to Saturday's final. She placed third in the region in the championship heat at 12.16.

A pair of athletes garnered all-region accolades in the shot put. Julia Tulimieri moved the implement 12.18m on her fourth attempt to rank fifth, while Wurtz claimed seventh with a distance of 12.14m.

Anna Mazur posted a sixth-place finish in the 400 hurdles, clocking in at 1:05.46 to finish 0.28 seconds behind Southern Maine's Alexis Karantza, who finished fifth.

The 4x100 clocking was just one-hundredth of a second later than the time established by the group at the NESCAC Championships.

The top eight in each event tally all-region accolades.
Select members of the squad will travel to the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza (FIRE) hosted by Williams next weekend.
