Hampson, McCaleb Make Big Moves in 1500 at MIT Final Qualifier Meet

CAMBRIDGE, MA (May 14, 2026) – Senior Quinn Hampson of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team smashed his school record in the 1500 meters at the MIT Final Qualifier meet on Thursday.

CAMBRIDGE, MA (May 14, 2026) – Senior

Quinn Hampson of the Tufts University men's outdoor track & field team smashed his school record in the 1500 meters at the MIT Final Qualifier meet on Thursday.

Hampson ran 3:46.29 tonight to lower his school record by almost three seconds. His previous mark from earlier this season was a 3:49.14 time. He improved his national qualifying position in the 15 greatly, moving up from 24th to 10th as of Thursday night.

Senior

Cullen McCaleb was right with Hampson, running a 3:47.09 time in the 1500 that ranks him #2 at Tufts. The time also improved his national ranking from 30th into a qualifying position of 13th.

Selections for the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships will be announced tomorrow.

Twenty-one Jumbos were in action at MIT overall, trying one last time to improve or record their NCAA qualifying marks. Rain made for less-than-ideal conditions to accomplish this, as no other Jumbos were able to reach national qualifying territory.

Junior

Sam Kurian did run his PR of 1:51.77 in the 800 meters today, which earnd him a #4 ranking all-time at Tufts and a top 40 national mark. Junior

Meba Henok had his season-best time in the event (1:52.29).

Senior

Cam McLeod ran a strong time of 53.26 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, but it did not improve upon his 52.84 season-best that was 20th in Division III entering the day.

Sophomore

Gabe Grove ran his PR and the team's best time of the spring in the 3000-meter steeplechase with his 9:25.61 mark early in the meet. Junior

Aidan Max also PR'd in the 5000 meters with a 14:46.18 time.

Jumbos who led in field events today were senior

Randy Hamilton in the javelin throw (59.87m – 196'5"), senior

Sahr Matturi in the long jump (6.77m – 22'2 ½"), sophomore

Luke Benson in the triple jump (14.14m – 46'6 ¾") and freshmen

Tieren Mead in the high jump (1.97m – 6'5 ½") and

Jonas Michael in the pole vault (4.58m - 15'0 ¼").

Senior

Amokrane Aouchiche posted a 14:57.36 time in the 5000 meters tonight. Freshmen

Jack Davis in the 100 meters (10.83) and

Jonathan Bailey in the 110-meter hurdles (15.21), and junior

Brady Kamali in the 400 meters (49.43) were also in action.
