#25 Baseball Ends Record-Breaking Season at Super Regionals
SALISBURY, Md. -- The 25th-ranked University of Chicago baseball team ended its 2026 campaign in the NCAA Super Regionals after falling to 6th-ranked Salisbury in a Friday doubleheader.

Game 1: Salisbury 5, UChicago 3
To open up the Super Regional's slate of games, 25 UChicago fell to #6 Salsbury, 5-3.
The Seagulls kicked off the scoring, hitting a homer in the first inning to take the early lead. Both teams struggled on the offensive end in the next couple of innings, until UChicago tied it up in the top of the fourth.
Down by one run, Max Weisner slammed a double into left field, bringing home
Harrison Belden to make it a 1-1 game. The Maroons kept powering on in the fifth inning, taking a brief 2-1 lead after an RBI single from
Nathan Bae. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Seagulls quickly responded, coming back to score three runs and take back the lead 3-1.
To tie the game yet again,
Michael Gladden homered to left field to cut the lead for UChicago in the top of the seventh. With a 3-4 game heading into the bottom of the inning, Salisbury scored on a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to two.
UChicago left five on base throughout the next two innings and ultimately fell to the Seagulls, 5-3.
Game 2: Salisbury 7, UChicago 4
In a must-win situation and the second game of the day, the Maroons battled hard but fell just short of a win, closing out their season at the NCAA Super Regionals.
The Seagulls took control early on, scoring the first run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Maroons struggled to capitalize with runners on base, and by the bottom of the third inning, Salisbury held a 5-0 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless for the next two innings as
Preston Benner held the momentum down for the opponents, retiring all six batters for the Seagulls.
In the bottom of the sixth, the scoring broke through for the Maroons. Off an RBI groundout by
Michael Gladden scored UChicago's first run of the game. Shortly after, on the first pitch,
Ryan Bhojwani homered to left center, cutting the Salisbury lead to three.
Finding their momentum at the plate again, the Seagulls scored two runs throughout the seventh and eighth innings to make it a 7-2 game heading into the ninth.
David Flanagan and
Lucien Reed held Salisbury scoreless in the ninth to give UChicago its best chance at staying alive in the tournament. With the Maroons now on offense,
Luke Weston opened up the bottom of the inning with a single to the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch to put UChicago in scoring position. With two outs, Gladden ripped an RBI triple into right field, making it a 3-7 ballgame.
Nathan Bae then lined a single to the shortstop to bring home Gladden and cut the lead to three, but the Seagulls' lead was too much as the Maroons struck out for their final out of the day.
UChicago baseball ends its season in its first appearance in program history at the NCAA Super Regionals and as UAA Champions for the first time in over 100 years. The Maroons finished the year with a 30-15 record, breaking the program's win record for the second consecutive year.
