Eastern Sprints Heavyweight Champions Compete for National Title
Harvard men's heavyweight rowing heads to California for IRA National Championship Regatta.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard men's heavyweight rowing team competes at the IRA National Championship Regatta from May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. HUBC recently defended its Eastern Sprints Championship and is coming off back-to-back silver medal finishes for the varsity in the 2024 and 2025 IRA National Championship.
IRA National Championship Regatta
• Harvard has competed for 19 national championships at the IRAs since 1995 and won three consecutive national championships between 2003 and 2005. HUBC has finished second in each of the last two years and third in 2017 and 2019.
• Harvard's varsity boat was beaten by Washington in each of the last two years, including a defeat by less than a second last year. HUBC returns four oarsmen from last year's varsity boat, including captain and stroke
• The third varsity claimed goal, while the second varsity claimed Harvard's second silver medal at least year's IRAs.
• At the Sarasota Invitaional to open the season in March, Harvard's varsity boat finished second to defending National Champion Washington. The HUBC second and third varsity boats both bested Washington on the day.
