O’Toole, Ferdinando Earn Major Honors as Three from Men’s Hoops Earn NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference Honors

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Babson College senior Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass./Dexter Southfield) was named Defensive Player of the Year, first-year Thomas Ferdinando (Andover, Mass./Governor's Academy) was tabbed Rookie of the Year, and three players were recognized when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its postseason awards on Tuesday morning.

O'Toole and Ferdinando were joined by sophomore

Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass./Brooks School) as Babson landed three players on the All-Conference First Team. O'Toole and Ferdinando both received post-season honors for the first time in their careers and Mulvey was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2025.

A 6-5 guard/forward, O'Toole has started all 27 games this season and leads the NEWMAC with a career-high 9.1 rebounds per game, ranks third in the league with 1.7 steals per game and fifth with 1.1 blocked shots per outing. He is also third on the team in scoring with a career-high 9.9 points per game and leads the squad with a career-best .580 shooting percentage. He recorded seven double-doubles and reached double digits in rebounds in 13 games, including a career-high 20 boards in an overtime win at Springfield in January. He blocked at least one shot in 18 games, matching his career-high three in two games, and he recorded at least one steal in 21 games, including his last 17 outings and a season-high five swipes in a win over Coast Guard in February.

A four-year veteran, O'Toole has started 96 of his 101 career games for the Green and White with averages of 7.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.7 blocks and 1.4 blocked shots per outing while shooting .508 percent from the field. He has scored 733 points and collected 760 rebounds, 73 blocked shots and 142 steals, and ranks sixth in program history in blocked shots, eighth in rebounds, tied for 12th in steals, tied for 14th in rebounds per game, and is 20th in career field goal percentage.

A 5-11 guard, Mulvey has started 26 of his 27 games this season and is second on the team and seventh in the NEWMAC with 16.1 points per game. He has drained a team-high 94 3-point field goals, second-most in a season in program history, with a .429 shooting percentage from beyond the arc and a .468 percentage on all shots while also collecting 64 assists and 31 steals. He leads the NEWMAC with an average of 3.5 3-point baskets per game and a .923 free throw percentage and ranks fourth in 3-point field goal percentage and sixth in the league in overall field goal percentage. He scored in double figures in 24 games this season, including his last 15 outings and a career-high 32 points in a win at Clark on January 31, and he has knocked down at least three trifectas in 14 straight outings and 20 overall, including making a career-high 8-of-11 from long range in a win over Wheaton in January and 7-of-9 in a victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.) in November.

A starter in 47 of his 51 career games, Mulvey has scored 663 points in his first two seasons after connecting on 146-of-359 attempts from 3-point range (.407), ninth-most in program history, and 233-of-530 on all field goal attempts (.440). He shoots 87.9 percent from the free throw line and has registered 94 rebounds, 125 assists (2.5 per game), and 45 steals.

A 6-3 guard, Ferdinando has started all 27 games this season and leads the team and ranks fifth in the NEWMAC with 17.0 points per game. He has knocked down 86 3-point field goals, fifth-most in a season in program history, with a .432 shooting percentage from beyond the arc and a .452 percentage on all shots while also producing 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He ranks second in the NEWMAC in 3-point field goals per game (3.2), third in 3-point field goal percentage, seventh in free throw percentage (87.0), and eighth in overall field goal percentage. He has scored in double figures in 24 games this season, including his last 18 outings, and poured in at least 20 points nine times, including a season-high 28 points in a win over Clark in early January. He connected on at least one 3-pointer in every game this season and at least two in his last 12 and 25 overall, including a season-best six buckets from beyond the arc in a win over No. 4 Tufts on November 14 and an overtime loss to No. 22 Johns Hopkins on December 31.

After capturing its third NEWMAC championship in the last four years, Babson (21-6) will take on Saint Joseph's of Maine (20-8) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
