In a landmark week for Washington and Lee University women's basketball, senior Mary Schleusner was named the Region 6 Player of the Year by D3hoops.com, while head coach Brittney Kemp received the Region 6 Coach of the Year accolade. Kemp, in her second year at the helm, guided the Generals to a record-setting 31-1 season, culminating in an NCAA Quarterfinals appearance. This season marked the program's longest winning streak and highest national ranking, reaching No. 3 in both the D3hoops.com and WBCA polls. Schleusner's outstanding performance also earned her a spot in the WBCA Division III Women's Collegiate All-Star Game, further highlighting her pivotal role in the team's success.
Meanwhile, the Washington and Lee swimming and diving teams are making waves at the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis. On the women's side, senior Maria Jellig competes in the 200 backstroke on the final day, having qualified with a strong 2:05.32 performance at the ODAC Championships. Jellig's versatility was evident as she also excelled in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, contributing to the Generals' conference title with her relay team successes.
For the men's team, senior Dalton Jobe leads the charge, competing in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley, following record-breaking swims at the ODAC Championships. Jobe set a new conference record in the 200 free and a program record in the 200 IM, showcasing his prowess in the pool. The Generals' depth is further demonstrated by their qualification in multiple relay events, underscoring a strong team presence at the national level.
