In men's basketball, Bates delivered a notable upset in the NESCAC quarterfinals, defeating No. 4 seed Amherst 70-59 at LeFrak Gymnasium. The No. 5 seed Bobcats' strong performance propels them into the semifinals, where they will aim to maintain their momentum.
Bates baseball opened its season with a series win against St. Lawrence University. After a commanding 12-3 victory on Friday, the Bobcats split a Saturday doubleheader, losing the first game 7-4 but bouncing back with a 13-6 win. A seven-run fifth inning in the second game of the twin-bill and effective relief pitching were crucial in securing the series.
The men's lacrosse team began their 2026 campaign with a pair of road victories. They edged out Union College 14-13 in a closely contested opener, thanks to a decisive goal by Jack Goldbach. The Bobcats then dominated Kean University, winning 15-6, to improve their record to 2-0.
Bates women's lacrosse split their season-opening West Coast trip. They fell 19-15 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a high-scoring affair but rebounded with a convincing 19-8 win against the University of Redlands. The Bobcats' balanced attack was key in securing their first victory of the season.
In squash, both Bates teams faced challenging matches against Williams. The women's team was defeated 9-0, while the men's team fell 8-1, with Dennis Welte securing the lone victory for Bates in a five-game battle.
The Bates track and field teams competed at the Mules Tune-up, hosted by Colby College, as they prepared for the upcoming New England Championships. Notably, Ryan Glaser set a new facility record in the men's 35-pound weight throw, highlighting the team's readiness for the postseason.
