Ethan Edwards of Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team has captured the national spotlight with his extraordinary performance against the University of Rochester. Edwards scored 54 points in a 110-98 victory, setting both a school and University Athletic Association (UAA) record for points in a game. His impressive shooting included 18-of-29 from the field and 12-of-21 from three-point range, also setting records for field goals and three-pointers made in a game. This performance, the highest in any NCAA division this season, also saw Edwards surpass the 1,000 career points milestone. For his efforts, Edwards was named the USBWA Division III Men's National Player of the Week and was included in the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. He also earned the UAA Athlete of the Week honor and was recognized as a Spartan Club Athlete of the Week.
In women's basketball, the Spartans celebrated a 63-50 victory over Rochester, highlighted by senior guard/forward Emily Plachta reaching 1,000 career points. Plachta scored 16 points, including eight in the decisive fourth quarter, to help secure the win. The game also marked a milestone for Head Coach Jennifer Reimer, who notched her 200th career victory with the program. The Spartans now hold a 10-14 overall record with one game remaining in their season.
The Case Western Reserve University baseball team opened its season with a sweep of Oswego State, winning three games at home. Junior Tyler Stillson was instrumental both at the plate and on the mound, collecting seven hits, including two doubles and a triple, while also pitching five shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to earn a win.
Men's tennis had a strong showing at the ITA Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championship, finishing third. The team defeated 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins and top-ranked Denison, while falling to fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Rohan Bhat was a standout, winning all three of his doubles matches during the tournament.
