Bates College women's basketball team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Hamilton 67-64 in overtime during the NESCAC quarterfinals. Junior guard Sarah Hughes was instrumental, scoring 20 of her 23 points in the final 25 minutes, earning her NESCAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this month. The Bobcats, trailing by 20 at halftime, rallied to force overtime, where Hughes scored five of their nine points. Bates, now 22-3, will face Amherst in the semifinals at Bowdoin.
On the baseball diamond, Bates' Gibby Sullivan and Theo Zacharia were named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. Sullivan's performance included three consecutive multi-hit games, contributing to a .692 on-base percentage and seven RBIs as Bates took two of three from St. Lawrence. Zacharia, earning his first collegiate win, delivered four shutout innings, pivotal in turning a 6-0 deficit into a 13-6 victory in the series finale.
In men's lacrosse, Miles Schmidt was named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Team of the Week. Schmidt excelled in faceoffs, winning 27 of 44, and collected 16 ground balls as Bates secured victories over Union and Kean. The Bobcats, starting the season 2-0, will next face Wesleyan.
The Bates men's squash team concluded its regular season with a narrow loss at St. Lawrence. Despite the team setback, sophomore Dennis Welte extended his personal winning streak to five matches, claiming a five-game victory. Meanwhile, the women's squash team fell 8-1 to St. Lawrence, with sophomore Scarlett Hine securing the lone win. Both teams now look forward to the CSA Divisional Team Championships in Philadelphia.
Bates men's track and field celebrated a historic moment as their 200-yard medley relay team set a new NCAA Division III record, highlighting a week where spring sports are gaining momentum.
