Bates junior center fielder Keagan Ryan has been named a third team All-Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, marking a significant individual achievement for the Bobcats. Ryan, who hails from Salem, New Hampshire, led the nation in stolen bases without being caught, finishing the season with a perfect 38 steals. His remarkable performance also included setting a new Bates record for runs scored in a season with 47, while he maintained an impressive .381 batting average and a .507 on-base percentage, ranking second in the NESCAC. Ryan's contributions in the field were equally noteworthy, as he made just one error while recording four assists. His standout games included a doubleheader against Trinity, where he scored six runs and stole three bases.
In rowing, Bates is gearing up for the NCAA and IRA Championships, with anticipation building for the upcoming events. The Bobcats recently celebrated the achievements of Ryan Smith, a 2023 alumnus who won the Vermont City Marathon, setting a course record and qualifying for the Olympic Trials. This recognition underscores the program's commitment to excellence both on and off the water.
The Bates softball team also made headlines this week, as five players were selected for the College Sports Communicators Softball Academic All-District® Team. Seniors Sophie Garber and Ella Maher, juniors Isabel Bettencourt and Sienna Pietrasiewicz, and sophomore Maddy Miller received this honor for their academic and athletic achievements. Maher, a biochemistry major with a 3.92 GPA, continues to impress as a three-time member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team. This recognition reflects the program's dedication to fostering student-athletes who excel in their studies while competing at a high level.
